Microsoft, the company behind the development of the Windows OS, is constantly updating their operating system by releasing new features, benefits, security fixes, and other essential updates in order to ensure Windows stays on the cutting edge of today’s technological needs.
There are many features and benefits in the Windows 10 OS that can help to maximize productivity and make your computing experience better overall. These are some of the everyday features and benefits we think you should be utilizing with your Windows 10-based computer.
Utilizing Windows 10 Features to their Fullest Potential
The latest feature release update for Windows 10 (Version 20H2) includes a new version of Microsoft’s own web browser called Edge. This browser is built on the Chromium framework, which is Google’s open-source foundation for the Chrome web browser. This means Edge is compatible with more websites than in previous versions.
Edge includes many new benefits as well, such as new privacy features which block sites that attempt to track you online, as well as a new feature called ‘Collections’ which helps you gather information from different sites as your browsing. You can view and change your privacy settings for Edge by going to Settings > Privacy Settings from the Windows start menu.
Speaking of the Start Menu, Windows 10’s latest build has also updated the Start Menu to allow more customizations. The new Start Menu includes a more streamlined layout and includes a more transparent background thereby helping icons stand out better.
You can further customize the Start Menu by adding accent color to your tiles. You can do this by going to Settings > Personalization > Color and enable the accent color on Start, taskbar and action center.
The Timeline feature is another feature update that has updated the previous Task View option. Timeline displays activities for the last 30 days on your computer from Windows applications, previous browser sessions, and, if you are using the Microsoft Launcher on your Android phone, you can also see activity from there. It can also synchronize activities across your PCs so that if you were working on something, you will easily be able to pick back up where you left off even if it is on a different device. Timeline displays currently run tasks at the top and the Timeline entries below that.
The latest version of Windows 10 has also introduced a way of connecting your smart phone with your PC. The settings app now includes a phone section, which lets you integrate your Android or iOS device with your computer. This allows any browser on iOS or Android to open a webpage immediately on a Windows 10 PC or to create a notification in the action center with the link to the webpage. You can also view and drag out photos from your phone to your PC, perform SMS text messaging, and make calls on your connected PC as well.
The Cloud Clipboard is another new benefit that has come with the latest Windows 10 build. Cloud Clipboard lets you access several previously copied items on your machine by using the Windows Key + V command. Syncing the Cloud Clipboard allows you to access the clipboard across multiple devices that your signed into from your Microsoft account as well. These features are expected to be expanded to be accessible from phones and other mobile devices in the near future as well.
Microsoft is expected to continue to release new features and versions of the Windows 10 OS for the foreseeable future so it’s important that you keep your computer up-to-date to ensure you are getting all the latest benefits and security fixes for your computer.
